    The free summer concert series, Live on the Drive, made folks feel alive this hot summer. The final concert was held on the beautiful Victory Memorial Drive on August 12 and featured Seven Steps to Havana. Folks laid back and relaxed or got up and danced to the rhythmic sizzle of salsa and harmonic jazz. Hats and shade were the best way to stay cool on the 93 degree evening, but the heat didn't stop Carmen Rubio and Antonio Machado from salsa dancing to the Latin sounds.

Camden Music School (CMS) has enjoyed a wonderful five-year journey with the neighborhoods we serve, from opening our doors to 15 students in January 2005, to welcoming nearly 200 students through the door this past spring, to our wonderful summer of lessons and camps including "Monkey Mind Pirates" and "Camp Komoniwannarock."

    The Workhouse Theatre Company has been hard at work planning for the future of live theater on the Northside. Their seventh season brings exciting changes and new developments.

    Hidden deep within the confines of the often-stigmatized Northside there exists a gem of an oasis where an artist and community can find refuge. This building that once housed a Pickle Factory now flourishes as the Homewood Studios (homewoodstudios.com), artist workspace rentals and gallery/meeting space. As I stepped into this building at 2400 Plymouth Ave. N. I was showered with a beautiful array of light emanating from the huge full panes of glass on the south wall. A feeling of clarity and well-being dominated my first impression of this colorful and vibrant arts facility. And the gracious and devoted retiree owners, George and Beverly Roberts (pictured), greeted me with a comforting welcome not always common in the world of art-curating and facilitating in the greater Twin Cities.
